81,000 Filipinos lose jobs in Dubai

Northern Emirates:  Philippine official gives number based on cash assistance applications

DUBAI: Up to 81,000 Filipinos in Dubai and the Northern Emirates may have faced a cash crunch or job loss, a senior Philippine official said.

The estimate is based on the number of expat Filipinos in the emirate who applied for one-time financial assistance offered by the Manila government, Philippine Consul General Paul Raymond Cortez told Gulf News on Tuesday (July 21, 2020).

Citing data from the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Manila, the Filipino diplomat said the number of applicants is a good indicator, but the actual count may be off by about 10%.

“With the cash aid, offered by DOLE, we are looking at 90,000 (Filipinos who faced job losses in Dubai and the Northern Emirates),” he said. “Perhaps count some double submissions or those who were not really laid off or furloughed, perhaps some 10% — or 9,000 — which makes 80,000 to 81,000 thereabouts.”

There’s a separate count for Abu Dhabi-based Filipinos. An estimated 1 million Filipino expatriates lost their livelihood due to the global coronavirus contagion, according to Manila officials.

On Monday (July 20, 2020) report states that over 23,000 job losses among Filipino workers in Kuwait.

As of July 3, 2020, some 72,000 overseas Filipinos had already been repatriated by the Manila government, Labour Secretary Silvestre Bello told Philippine media.

The Duterte government offered one-time COVID19 pandemic-related $200 cash aid to all displaced overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) around the world.

As of April 2020, the “AKAP” (“Abot Kamay Ang Pagtulong” or “Help Within Reach”) programme listed 74,050 OFWs across the UAE – who were either terminated from work and were on a “No Work-No Pay” status.

The financial assistance is equivalent to Dh730.

There are nine countries in the Middle East where Filipinos live and work: the UAE, Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Libya, Oman and Saudi Arabia.

Other AKAP beneficiaries were also identified in Australia, Brunei, Hong Kong, Japan, South Korea, Macau, Singapore, Taiwan, Malaysia and New Zealand. There were also applicants listed in Europe and the Americas.

Applicants in UAE must download the AKAP form from and submit documents online to the relevant Philippine Overseas Labour Office in Abu Dhabi and POLO-Dubai.

Thanksgiving, it’s always that holiday that sneaks up on me. One minute I’m passing out candy and the next I’m hurrying a cart around to get all the Thanksgiving food. With a list of things to cook, I tend to lean on my Thanksgiving cocktail to be a punch. That way I don’t have to worry about playing bartender and cook.
My favorite drink to serve this time of year is this Blood Orange and Cranberry Punch. It’s a beautiful gin cocktail made with Master of Mixes Blood Orange Margarita Mix, a bottle of dry champagne, and cranberry juice. It’s tossed with frozen whole cranberries to keep the punch cold but not watered down. It’s elegant, bubbly, and so easy, you won’t mind having to refill the pitcher. It is the perfect Thanksgiving or Friendsgiving punch!

This Thanksgiving punch has a few ingredients, which makes it easy to pick up most of them while shopping for your turkey.
You’ll start by slicing one orange and putting in your pitcher, followed by a bag of whole cranberries, reserving a few for garnishes later, if you like. Then pour in 1-1/2 cups of gin, and I prefer something that’s got an earthy taste. It will pair like rosemary does to cranberry, though you can always substitute it for vodka if that’s what is on hand.
Follow this with 1-1/2 cups of cranberry juice and 2 cups of Master of Mixes Blood Orange Margarita Mix. This mix adds in layers of lime, hints of sweetness, and Italian blood orange flavor to make an elegant punch. Using Master of Mixes is my hack for getting bold flavor into these big batch cocktails with minimal effort, which is key for formal entertaining!
Top the rest of the punch off with a full bottle of dry champagne. Throw in a handful of fresh mint and give it a good stir to combine everything. Serve in 8-10 oz glasses with leftover cranberries, mint, and optional dehydrated oranges.

DEHYDRATED ORANGES IN THE OVEN

This garnish is optional. I just love the way it looks and gives a bit of bitterness to the drink if dropped in. It can be made ahead of time.
Pre-heat oven to 200 degrees.
Slice one orange into 1/4 inch slices. Remove any seeds. On a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper lay your orange rounds in a single layer. Add to the over and cook for 2-2.5 hours.
Remove from oven and let cool on a cooling rack. Put in an airtight container and they will be good for 2-3 days.

Top 13 Best Twist Endings In Netflix Movies, From 'The Others' To 'Vanilla Sky'

There's nothing quite like a twist ending to a movie. You're watching a film, totally invested in the story for a good 90, 95 minutes, and then out of nowhere, the ending completely makes you rethink everything you just saw. When a movie's twist endingis done well, like the realization of Bruce Willis's character in The Sixth Sense or the revelation of Tyler Durden's true nature in Fight Club, then they become the most lauded and memorable aspect of the film. When they're executed poorly, like the unveiling of the modern city surrounding the village in The Village, then they become the most criticized thing about the film. The point I'm trying to make is that twist endings, whether good or bad, come to define the films they conclude. Thankfully, Netflix has several movies with great twist endings.

However, unlike the famous twists that I just mentioned, you are probably unlikely to already know how these movies end. Do you know the twist at the end of the Korean film, Oldboy? Or what about the shocker at the climax of the 1920 German silent film, The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari? I thought not. But after reading this article, you'll know them all, so don't read on unless you want to know how these films conclude, because these are the 13 best twist endings on Netflix
1. Devil
 horrornymphs on YouTube
This film was produced by M. Night Shyamalan, who also came up with the story, so of course there's a twist ending. A group of people are stuck in an elevator together and they begin dying one by one, learning along the way that one of them is actually the devil. As usual, the devil is the one you least expect; in this case an old woman who had already died earlier in the film.
2. Basic Instinct

N.B. on YouTube

A murder mystery where Sharon Stone's character, Catherine, is suspected throughout the film, only to be seemingly redeemed at the end... before being revealed as the murderer in the final frame.
3. Vanilla Sky

                                                                                                                        Movies on YouTube

Tom Cruise's character learns at the end of the film that he is in a near-death state and has been living out a lucid dream, meaning that the entire movie happened inside his head. He then wakes up at the end of the film, and that's where it ends.

4. Primal Fear

Paramount Movies on YouTube
This legal thriller sees Edward Norton play a stuttering altar boy accused of murder. He seems to suffer from multiple personality disorder, with no knowledge of the murder committed by his deranged altar ego, Roy. But Roy ends up being the only personality that is real, having invented the altar boy persona to get off the hook.

5. Snowpiercer

FilmIsNow Movie Trailers on YouTube
There are a number of twists at the end of this dystopian action thriller, where everyone on Earth is on a train with an infinitely powered engine. But the most significant twist has to be the reveal of why the engine never runs out of fuel: It's run by children from the poor section of the train.
6. The Others

Paradise Of Trailers on YouTube
Shades of The Sixth Sense are felt in this ghost story, as Nicole Kidman's character learns that she and her children are the film's ghosts.

7. The Cabinet Of Dr. Caligari

Movieclips Trailer Vault on YouTube
Maybe the first twist ending ever, and later mimicked in films like Shutter Island, this classic sees the protagonists in an insane asylum at the end of the film, meaning they cooked up the events of the movie in their heads.

9. Dream House

Movieclips Trailers on YouTube
This film's biggest twist happens partway through, when Daniel Craig's character suddenly
remembers that his wife and kids are dead and that he was blamed for their murder. But the twist that comes at the end is another shocker, as the killer is revealed to be his neighbor's ex-husband.

10. Oldboy

 Viral Film on YouTube
A man is released after being mysteriously imprisoned for 15 years and is given the chance to find out who locked him up. Along the way, he meets and falls in love with a woman with whom he becomes romantically involved. When the man finally meets his captor, he learns that everything he did was plotted out by his captor as part of a revenge plot, including the woman he slept with, who is revealed to be his own daughter.
11. American Beauty

soundfan on YouTube
Right up until the end of the film, thanks to some clever misdirection, the audience expects Kevin Spacey's character to be murdered by his wife. But instead, the killer ends up being his next door neighbor.

13. Anger Management

Sony Pictures at Home UK on YouTube
At the end of this insane movie, it's revealed that the anger management therapy of Adam Sandler's character actually starts near the beginning of the film, long before he meet's Jack Nicholson's therapist character, and his girlfriend also helped orchestrate the whole thing.
These 13 films all have endings that are surprising, and are some of the best twists around. Maybe they're not as iconic as Fight Club or The Sixth Sense, but they're all still shocking enough to make your jaw drop.

Powerful Rice Water Recipes For Healthy Natural Hair Growth In Just 1 Week

Rice is a high source of starch and protien both of which helps make your hair strong and stops it from breaking. It also helps promote hair growth when used regularly. Coconut oil on the other hand when mixed with rice will help your hair stronger, remove dandruff, promote new hair growth and strengthen your hair follicles.

Simple Rice Water

Ingredients:

1/2 Cup of White Rice
1 Cup of Water

Preparation & Application

Soak your rice with the water and let it sit overnight. Strain the mixture in the morning into a clean bowl and let it sit for a few hours. Once you start to smell the rice ( sour scent) put it in the fridge for 8 extra hours. This simply means that you have successfully fermented the rice which is very important if you want this remedy to work.

Before using this remedy, you will need to mix it with an extra cup of water so that it is not too strong on the hair. Apply the water to your hair completely, cover it with a shower cap and leave it in for 10 to 15 minutes before washing it off with warm water and a mild shampoo.

Repeat this remedy 3-4 times weekly for a strong, healthy and naturally growing hair.
Rice Water With Coconut & Essential Oil

Ingredients :

1/2 Cup of Rice
2 Tablespoons of Coconut Oil
3-4 Drops of Rosemary Essential Oil
1 Cup of Water

Preparation & Application:

Use the steps above to prepare your fermented rice water, mix in the other ingredients listed above and return the mixture to the fridge so that it ferments further. Apply the mixture to your hair and massage your scalp for 15 to 20 minutes.

Leave the mixture in your hair for an extra 40 minutes and make sure that you cover it with a shower cap. Wash off the remedy and also use a mild chemical-free shampoo. Repeat this remedy 3 times per week for best results.

IS FACEBOOK GETTING RID OF THE NEWS FEED?

 NONPROFIT MARKETERS NEED TO KNOW

The winds of change are blowing hard at Facebook, and the potential implications for nonprofit digital marketers are huge.

To put it lightly… Facebook has been battling some significant negative press coverage lately.

Not only in terms of gigantic and widespread breaches of data privacy, but also devastating breaches of trust.

When Chris Cox announced his resignation from Facebook after being a key leader there for over a decade, the writing was on the wall.

Cox helped design the very first iterations of the Facebook News Feed (which people HATED in the very beginning, remember that?) and developed it into the powerhouse that it is today.

The big, hairy, audacious problem with the News Feed is that the spread of information is based on the algorithm.

And the Facebook algorithm values engagement – over truth, over facts, over (and often at the expense of) everything else.

The content and the posts that get the most shares, comments, and reactions spread the fastest – at any cost.

On March 6, Zuckerberg posted a 3200 word manifesto about his new “privacy-focused” vision for Facebook.

In it, he laid out his statement of intent to move Facebook’s share-it-all culture to focus more on private messaging, ephemeral stories, and more encryption.
What Does This Mean for Facebook Marketing?

Zuckerberg’s pivot to privacy is most likely a response to the increased calls for government regulation and antitrust lawsuits, and even reports of Facebook’s negative impact on mental health.

It seems to be intended to eliminate the problem rather than thoughtfully come up with a way to solve it.

Benedict Evans wrote:

“Much like moving from Windows to cloud and ChromeOS, you could see getting rid of News Feed as an attempt to remove the problem rather than patch it.

Russians can’t go viral in your news feed if there is no news feed.

‘Researchers’ can’t scrape your data if Facebook doesn’t have your data.

You solve the problem by making it irrelevant.”

It seems safe to assume that New Feed has peaked, and Facebook is going to start downplaying it in favor of new privacy features.

While we don’t know the exact implications and the layout for these upcoming changes, as social media marketers, we need to be prepared for another so-called Facebook-pocalypse.
My recommended strategy in a nutshell:
Don’t delete Facebook just yet.

68% of U.S. adults use Facebook, with 74% of users visiting the site daily.

Nearly three-quarters of women in the U.S. (74%) use the platform, compared with 62% of men.

While it is stagnating in growth, it’s not bleeding members as previously reported, and it remains a powerful tool in the digital marketing toolbox.
Double down on a strategy to get your Facebook fans onto your email list.

Since we do not control Facebook, and since they move the cheese on us frequently, savvy digital marketers focus on getting Facebook fans to engage on other more permanent platforms, such as email.

Drive people to your email sign-up page, with a compelling call-to-action.

Begin experimenting with ephemeral content – Facebook and Instagram Stories.

Once posted, Stories are viewable for up to 24 hours, not appearing in the main News Feed or Timeline of the app.

Social media bloggers and researchers have speculated that the News Feed on Instagram and Facebook are going to be usurped in popularity by Stories.

Buffer found that Instagram Stories ads deliver exponentially better results than other types of social media ads.

Zuckerberg shared that users now share more than 1 billion Stories every day.

Over on Instagram, 47 percent of users find that Instagram Stories helps them be more authentic in their communication with friends and family.

Explore Facebook Groups.

Groups, both private and public, shouldn’t be affected by the drawing down of the News Feed, as they are smaller and more private.

For more on how to create a Facebook Group for your nonprofit, get my free ebook The Essential Guide to Nonprofit Facebook Groups.

Continue to use Facebook Live to connect with your community and build your movement organically.

Facebook Live remains one of the best ways to leverage the Facebook algorithm’s love of engagement.

Live video receives 10x the engagement as on demand video, and Live videos are watched 3x as long.

What did you think of Zuck and co’s privacy announcement? What do you think it means for the News Feed? Let us know in the comments!
