Another OFW from Dubai who tested positive for COVID-19

The Department of Health (DOH) in Central Visayas is now monitoring another overseas Filipino worker (OFW) from Dubai after she tested positive for COVID-19.

According to Dr. Mary Jean Loreche, DOH-7 chief pathologist and COVID-19 task force spokesperson, the patient is a 28-year-old female OFW who arrived in Cebu from Dubai last Thursday.

The patient’s sample specimen will be sent to the Philippine Genome Center (PGC) in Quezon City for genome sequencing.

Genome sequencing will provide data necessary to determine whether or not the variant of the COVID-19 she contracted was the highly transmissible UK strain.

Loreche said the OFW was immediately isolated and her health condition is being closely monitored. She is asymptomatic.

Her spouse and baby were also placed under close monitoring.

At present, the DOH-7 are waiting for the results of genomic sequencing of two other OFWs detected with COVID-19.

The first one is a 35-year-old male who arrived from the United States. The second is a 54-year-old male who also arrived from Dubai.
