In a report by Manila Bulletin, the 32-year-old suspect, who was identified as a certain Marahay, surrendered to the police two days after the gruesome murder.
A 10-year-old girl in Calubian, Leyte was reportedly raped and murdered by a farmer whom she sought help with her school module, the Calubian municipal police said.
The report said that barangay officials and police found the girl’s body on January 22 at a mountainous area in the neighboring town.
According to the police investigation, she went to the house of Marahay around 11 AM last January 19 and looked for the suspect’s wife who could help her with her school module.
At the time, the suspect’s wife was attending a meeting in the barangay hall.
It was only the suspect and his two minor sons who were in the house.
Marahay later instructed her sons to take their cow out to pasture, leaving him and the victim alone in the house, the report said.
When the two sons left, the suspect took advantage of the opportunity and raped the girl.
After raping the girl, the suspect brought the girl to a farm in San Isidro town and killed her using a bolo.
The suspect then buried the girl’s body in the farm.
The victim bore a hack wound in the neck when her body was dug up by authorities.
