Good Manners and Right Conduct

Mano Po!

Senator Zubiri Proposes Bringing Back GMRC

We usually perceive Good Manners and Right Conduct as a school subject. However, good manners are imposed on us by our parents at a young age. To live peacefully and blend well with the society, we are taught of the correct behaviours and conduct. The subject has been long removed from the school curriculum and changed to Values Education.

Bring back GMRC

In this digital age, we see some disrespectful actions through social media and news as well. Those kinds are being bombarded with hateful messages and comments from the netizens. The situation opens up the idea that good manners and right conduct should be included in the school curriculum from grade school all through high school.

 GMRC Act

July this year, senator Juan Miguel Zubiri filed the GMRC Act or also known as Senate Bill No. 310. The act aims to bring back the GMRC subject to elementary grade to high school. Although the Department of Education insists that Values Education is still up on the present curriculum, Senator Zubiri claims on the fact that many kids today commits on breaking the law.

Zubiri states,

“I observe that this seeming downgrading of Values Education in the curriculum has made it harder to raise upright citizens. So, we see rising criminality in the streets and inside our homes committed by youngsters and adults who have not undergone GMRC as we had in the old days.”

Gangsterism and bad habits

The senator also escalates the issue on the growing number of gangs and dRuG use involving teenagers,

“We witness this low level of discipline in disrespectful behaviour of children and teens who are most vulnerable to the use of drugs and oftentimes resort to gangsterism.”

Beneficial to everyone

The act, as explained by Senator Zubiri, insists that everyone will “very much” benefit from it. He also points out that countries like Singapore and Japan benefit from focusing on good manners, respect, and discipline.

“We can see how it is effective in their own countries and as a matter of fact praised and emulated by many people across the world,”

Zubiri also insists that adding up GMRC subject in curricula would not cost much and would not take so much time in school.

Miss Utah Rachel Slawson will make history as Miss USA

The first openly bisexual contestant

CNN

Slawson, 25, was crowned Miss Utah on Saturday and will go on to compete at Miss USA, where she will become the first openly bisexual contestant.
"This is my 7th pageant, my 5th time competing at Miss Utah USA, and tonight I finally experienced hands down the biggest dream of my life," Slawson said.
The beauty queen opened up about her mental health struggles leading up to her win, revealing that she "tried to end my life… the night I lost Miss Utah USA" at age 19 because she questioned, "'Why wasn’t I enough?'"
"After a few trips to the psych ward, being diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder… and finally coming to terms with who I am as a queer woman," Slawson said she found her true worth.
"The only difference between tonight, and the night I left broken-hearted wishing I wasn’t alive, is that I knew I was enough before I arrived," she added.
GLAAD (the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation) applauded Slawson's win.
"Rachel’s presence on the Miss USA stage later this year will most definitely send a powerful message to LGBTQ Americans and Utahns, especially those in the bisexual+ community," tweeted Anthony Ramos, GLAAD’s head of talent.
As the new Miss Utah, Slawson promised to "share my truth" during her reign.
"If I’m being honest with you, this crown is a new job, not an answer to the question I spent the last 9 years asking. 'Why am I even here?' I am why," she said.
Slawson concluded her message, "I am so grateful for this crown."
The Utah native will follow in the footsteps of Swe Zin Htet, who became the first openly lesbian woman to compete for Miss Universe in 2019, despite homosexuality being illegal in her home country of Myanmar.
In 2016, Miss Missouri's Erin O’Flaherty became the first openly gay contestant to compete in Miss America, a different pageant from Miss USA.
The date for Miss USA 2020 hasn't been announced yet.

Jerks While Falling Asleep

If Your Body Suddenly Jerks While You Are Falling Asleep, This Is What it
Our bodies are very interesting things. They can actually inform us when something is not right. One of the things that our body does is twitching before you fall asleep.

                 NF

If this has been happening to you we want to tell you not to panic, you are not the only one. Sometimes, after a long day, you are in your bed and ready to sleep. However, there is a sudden interruption by twitching and this makes you wonder what could be wrong. Just continue reading.

The Hypnic Twitch Before Falling Asleep

According to scientists, this is known as the hypnic twitch and it resembles a feeling or falling thus making your bodytwitch. Some scientists believe that it might be the consumption of caffeine before bed or certain medications like Adderal and Ritalin. However, this also goes for people who are very exhausted and who finally go to sleep, but too fast. This is due to the fact that the brain cannot keep up with the sleep phases.

One hypothesis says that this happens because you are starting to dream but you are not fully asleep and this is a symptoms of both of these things fighting.

Another evolutionary hypothesis claims that this happens because this was the body’s way to wake up our ancestors before they fell out of the trees.

Namely, when your brain is confused, it will restart and you will wake up with a burst of chemicals. This is however not dangerous for your health, but it is still not a very good feeling. There are still also those opinions that twitches are connected to early onsets of Parkinson’s disease or Alzheimer’s, brain injury or nerve damage. But this is if it is too serious.
